Re: 33402

DD 12, I like to paint my engine rebuilds as I still have pride in my work. Purple ( or as it's officially known Olympia Red) is my current favourite flavour πŸ˜ƒ

Re: FMR Fleet Movements

It won't happen overnight though as things are really busy with sorting out the green Volvos that are arriving with certain issues and need to go into service quickly.
Been busy building and fitting an engine into 67661 as well the last few days...

Re: FMR Fleet Movements

And here it is in bits πŸ˜ƒ
Engine is out and stripped. It's terminal for the block I'm afraid, as no1 con rod has snapped and smashed the bottom of the cylinder. We have a good spare block that I'm planning to swap everything over into.

Re: DD12 Revival

DD 12, the engine runs fine and I'm sure most of the smoke is due to it not having a proper good blowout for many years. A new exhaust system has been delivered and I'm sure this will make a difference as the old one is full of a tar like substance which is really flammable ( don't ask πŸ˜ƒ ) When I ge...

Re: 33402

The gearbox was ok but the engine was just plain worn out and had a bad oil leak from a loose camshaft core plug. I ended up fitting 6 pistons, 6 liners, new camshaft, new followers, all new bearings and a new gear pump for the fuel pump. Here she is waiting to go back in.

Re: DD12 Revival

Shhhh no one is supposed to see the cardboard repair panels ;) Managed to cut all the rot from the inner rear wheel arch yesterday. A pig of a job but it needed to come out. I was trying to make the whole repair section in one panel but without further dismantling of the body pillars this wasn't pos...

Re: DD12 Revival

Mechwr26 has found the Fleetline... Yeah I've found it ;) She ended up in the body shop pretty much ignored by everyone and I've sort of found myself ending up taking stock of what needs doing to her. She's really not that bad but does require a lot of love and time. I met Jeremy from the museum on...

Re: 33404 - Engine/Gearbox swap

Oh and here's the rebuild I've just completed on 67654 engine. The first time it's been apart since it's Euro4 conversion which was done before I came back to work at Worcester.

Re: 33404 - Engine/Gearbox swap

It was the idle control solenoid that failed  How embarrassing and annoying for me as I hate having comebacks in jobs like this. Luckily we found the issue within a few minutes and as I have a big pool of spare bits and pieces it didn't take long to sort out. It's been fine since and goes quit...
