Re: Gold Cup charter at Shrub Hill Friday 15 March 2019.

I was on the first of the Clun Castle trains. A very good run by one of my favourite engines but it did struggle on a greasy Old Hill bank on the return journey and, although I can't be certain, I suspect that the diesel did take on the role of banker to give a helping hand although I appreciate it ...

Re: Gold Cup charter at Shrub Hill Friday 15 March 2019.

Nice pictures. Good that the charter operators and Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Railway have the initiative to rise to the occasion to meet the demand and make some money out of it. As usual, though, the big players either can't be bothered or haven't the business sense to do the same. Perhaps t...

Re: Oh Deer!

Reminds me of travelling on a Johnsons coach a few years back when we collided with a deer on a Belgian motorway. The deer emerged from bushes at speed and collided with the front offside corner of the VDL coach. Apart from a bloody mess where it hit, the coach was unscathed but sadly the deer must ...

Re: 1963 Midland Red coach tour leaflet.

Not sure if the date fits but certainly around that time the southern end of the M5 was the junction with the M50. Traffic intending to go further South had to go on to the M50 and leave at junction 1 on to the A38. Not surprisingly, until the M5 was further extended, particularly on summer Saturday...

Re: Bus tickets from the 1950s and 1960s.

What a super collection covering almost all the different types of tickets of the period, including one of the auxiliary tickets used, I think, when the ticket machine had broken down. In my childhood days, it used to be the thing to ask the conductor if we could have one of the remains of the old t...

Some very nice pictures, thanks Tim. I agree about the 'crunchie' livery. I thought it might grow on me but now I am getting used to it, I think it's even worse. One of the few things I think London Midland got right was its green and black livery which I thought was very smart and pleasing to the e...

Re: 1963 Midland Red coach tour leaflet.

I think my initial recollection about the Gloucester mystery trips was probably a little hazy so far as the vehicle used was concerned. As I imagine the MN coach at that time would probably have been used on a day tour, the evening trip was more usually entrusted to one of MN's dual purpose saloons ...

Re: 1963 Midland Red coach tour leaflet.

Thanks Tim for this most interesting piece of memorabilia. I had forgotten how extensive the day tour programme was but of course far fewer families had access to a car and for most of us, if we wanted a day out the coach or train was the only way. I have mentioned before the Sunday evening tour (s...

I did say it was on the radio
Indeed you did but journalists are journalists, whichever medium in which they work. I got the quote above from a former local radio journalist when he was tutoring on a 'how to handle the press' course I attended when I was still working.
